Sionainn McCann elected to Dundalk South Local Electoral Area

Newly elected to Dundalk South Local Electoral Area (LEA), Sionainn McCann, says serving the people of Dundalk well and more amenities for young people will be her priority for the next five years.

Cllr McCann was elected to Dundalk South in the early hours of Monday morning, on the 10th count. Commenting to the Dundalk Democrat on Monday after being elected, the newly elected councillor who will be the youngest councillor in the upcoming council term, said that “it's surreal.

“It was very early in the morning [when I was elected] as well, so I think that sort of added to the surrealness or everything”, she said laughing.

She continued: “Hopefully, I like to think that I will be able to serve the people of Dundalk well. For me, my top priorities are, aside from trying to get some of the bread and butter issues, like roads and footpaths back as a priority for Louth County Council, is youth amenities.

“Trying to get more youth amenities, particularly in Dromiskin, where I'm from, trying to do right by my community and make sure there's things there for young people.”

Thanking those who supported her and helped her out through her election campaign, Cllr McCann said, “I am absolutely grateful to everybody that came out and helped me.

“My election officer, JC, who's actually getting a triple bypass this morning, I don't think anybody could have worked harder for me than him.”

She added, “ I'm absolutely forever grateful to Sinn Féin for giving me the chance, for putting me on a platform and supporting and believing in me the whole way through.”
