Cllr Antóin Watters and Sinn Féin local election candidate, Fiona Mhic Conchoille, have welcomed confirmation from Bus Eireann that they are currently undertaking a review of the bus timetable in the north Louth area.

Cllr Watters explained that, “over the last number of months we have been contacted by numerous constituents who highlighted delays in the bus Eireann services travelling to Newry and Dundalk. This has resulted in workers and students arriving late to work and college.”

The Sinn Féin councillor added, “in our rural area the bus service is essential for day-to-day life and we contacted Bus Eireann to highlight our concerns with the delays and to seek a review of the timetable.”

Local election candidate Fiona Mhic Conchoille said that, “a number of students are travelling to college from Omeath and Carlingford and it is very frustrating when they are missing out on their first lesson because they are restricted by the current bus timetable.

“We are looking forward to the review and improvement of the timetable. At a time when we are monitoring our carbon footprint it is imperative that rural areas have public transport that meets the needs of those that use them.”

Cllr Watters concluded. “Sinn Féin in north Louth is working hard on the ground to deal with this and many other local issues and will continue to push for improved services for the area at every opportunity.”
