Many families are facing difficulty in securing school transport for students attending Bush Post Primary School this September according to Councillor John Reilly

Councillor John Reilly has expressed serious concern over the ongoing difficulties many families are facing in securing school transport for students attending Bush Post Primary School this September.

Over recent days, the Dundalk-Carlingford representative says he has been inundated with calls and messages from anxious parents who are still trying to source school bus tickets for their children.

According to Cllr Reilly, most representations have come from the Kilcurry area, where approximately 35 students are due to attend Bush Post Primary School. Many parents remain uncertain whether their children will be allocated a seat on school transport for the upcoming academic year.

“School bus tickets seem to be like a lottery,” said Cllr. Reilly. “Parents have complied with the application process, yet many still do not know if their children will have access to a school bus.

“This uncertainty is causing unnecessary stress and anxiety for families at what should be an exciting time as children prepare for the new school year.”

Cllr Reilly said he has formally written to Bus Éireann seeking urgent clarification on the situation and has requested that every effort be made to ensure that students who require transport are accommodated.

In addition, he has sought the assistance of Paula Butterly TD in making representations to both the Department of Education and Bus Éireann regarding the issue.

“It is unacceptable that families are left unsure how their children will get to school just weeks before the start of term,” Cllr. Reilly continued.

“The demand for places is clearly there, particularly in the Kilcurry area, and I am calling on the relevant authorities to provide additional capacity where necessary.”

Cllr Reilly said he will continue to engage with Bus Éireann, the Department of Education and local representatives until a solution is found for the affected families.
