832 houses have been deemed vacant or derelict in Louth, according to Louth County Council.

Louth County Council said in its monthly management report for December, that an online application to survey vacant homes was developed by the Department of Housing, and that at the start of May, staff in the Housing section began the survey and logged the results on the app.

It said that 1,599 properties have been surveyed throughout the county and 832 have been deemed vacant or derelict.

The local authority added that it has started to engage with property owners to bring the property back into use with the aid of the Croi Conaithe grant.

The Vacant Property Refurbishment Grant provides funding to refurbish vacant and derelict homes. It can also be used to renovate properties that have not been used as residential properties before. It is funded by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage through the Croí Cónaithe (Towns) Fund.
