Celebrations as The Bartender in Dundalk celebrates 20 years in business

“The time has flown, it's like a blink to be honest”, says Sheila Connolly from The Bartender in Park Street, which she runs with her husband Joe, and sons Martin and Peter.

“We opened in 2006 and it's now 2026, I don't know where the time went to be honest.

"We specialise in not having any TVs in the pub, we have two open fires and then a nice beer garden in the summer, so our theory is, people concentrate on the art of conversation.

"People come in and have a beer and a chat and the craic, then we specialise in a lot of craft beers from all over the world, as well as Irish beers.

“The beer garden is popular this time of year, people come in and have a few beers and go out and relax.”

There are plenty of events every year at The Bartender to keep people entertained.

"Every year we have different events, in October we always have the Oktoberfest, we bring in a special brew of Erdinger beer from Germany, and the staff dress up and we have a beer promotion.

“Then at Halloween we have a fancy dress and on New Year's Eve, the staff always dress up and we have a night.

"While many pubs no longer open seven days a week, due to changing drinking habits of people, Sheila says, “we don't, we're old school, we like to open seven days.

"Keep the door open as Joe my husband always says, it's better having the door open than closed.”

Sheila adds that their son, Martin, is going to take over the family business. “So hopefully he'll continue on for another 20 years”, she adds.

Congratulations to all at The Bartender and here’s to the next 20 years!
