Planning extension sought for Strategic Housing Development granted planning permission in 2020

An extension of duration is being sought from Louth County Council, for planning permission granted in 2020 for 216 homes on lands at the Dublin Road, Haggardstown, Dundalk.

PJ and EJ Doherty Limited care of Genesis Planning Consultants of 27 Patrick Street, Newry, Co Down, was granted planning permission in December 2020 for the Strategic Housing Development by An Bord Pleanála. In the original application, planning permission was sought for 257 homes along with provision of a crèche.

The proposed homes comprised 57 two-bedroom dwellings; 76 three-bedroom semi-detached dwellings; five three-bedroom terrace dwellings; 13 four-bedroom semi-detached dwellings; 12 four-bedroom detached dwellings; as well as 94 apartments or duplex units consisting of 19 one-bedroom units, 38 two-bedroom units and 37 three-bedroom units.

The planning application also provided for items including: the use of existing access from Dublin Road with associated upgrade works to facilitate vehicular, pedestrian and cycle access to include provision of a right turning lane; provision of a cycle path along Dublin Road; provision of internal access roads and footpaths and associated connections to the existing Earlsfort residential estate; and provision of residential communal open space areas, including formal play areas.

An Bord Pleanála granted planning permission for the development in December 2020, with conditions attached however, that included a reduction in the number of homes. With the omission of an apartment block, along with 27 houses, planning was granted for 216 homes.

A decision on the application is due from Louth County Council by 18 September 2025.
