Tributes have poured in for Louth man James Scullion who has sadly passed away.

James (Jimmy) Scullion was from Tullyallen and Lurgan and died on February 21st 2025 peacefully at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

He was the beloved husband of Grace, and dearly loved father of Aideen, Elaine, Declan, Ciaran, and the late Conor.

Much loved too by Grace’s children, Donald, Ellis, George and Cheryl, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, all his grandchildren and great grandson.

Jimmy will be greatly missed by his siblings Marie, Eveleen, Margaret, Francis, Bernadette, Geraldine and Kevin, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives and his many friends, including his former work colleagues in Ireland and Africa.

Tributes have rushed in from as far as Nigeria with heartfelt messages of condolences for the late Jimmy.

A work colleague remembered him as, "a great man and good friend, always smiling, more concerned about you and your well being, a brilliant tradesman and a pleasure to work with, he could sing and dance, tell yarns and lifts you up, on hard days and in and out of work, a great work colleague, always there to help, loved all sports especially following Celtic

and Gaa. Jimmy will be sadly missed."

A message from Donald, Jimmy's stepson said, "Dad as I fondly called him. Was a man who never joked when it came to family. He was always there for me and my family and always gave the best advice any father could give to a man he embraced as his son. Dad was always looking at the bright side of life and was very protective of my mother his wife and always cared for her and loved her so much and made sure she was never without. I will miss you so much as your last message to me over Christmas was telling me how much you missed my presence in Ireland for Christmas and how easy it would be when cooking for the big family. May you Rest where there is Peace. I know you definitely made Heaven because on earth you were definitely an Angel in human form. Love you always and I will never forget you."

"The news of the demise of Jimmy came to us in Nigeria as a huge shock.

The late Jimmy was very passionate and hard working. His construction work in Taraba State, Nigeria speaks eloquently of his knack for excellence. On behalf of Obot's family (Grace's) in Nigeria, I pray that the good Lord will console the Scullions and grant them the fortitude to bear this sudden loss. May the soul of Jimmy rest in peace while his legacies live on.

Please accept our heartfelt condolences," a message said.

Another message said, "May you RIP Jimmy. Condolences to all family. Having worked with you for many years in Africa it always was a pleasure to see your hard working ways and a struggle at times for me to keep up with your highest standards. They just dont make people like that anymore. You will be greatly missed and as others have said you were and always will be a legend. Rest in peace my friend."

"My Sincerest condolences to Mrs. Gracie and the Scullion Clan. You are all privileged to have met and known a gentleman who gave himself out to the wellbeing and cause of family, friends and strangers. he is a rare gift and an enduring testament of love, kindness and compassion. While you grief, take pride in the fact that you were blessed to have met a beautiful soul on your earthly journey; a gift many desires and never get and that in itself, is a blessing to be grateful for. Grief lightly as you keep his memories alive," a tribute said.

"With deeply felt sadness we received the news of Jimmy’s passing. True gentlemen are so rare, and at a young age I was privileged to have met Jimmy Scullion. No matter the distance or the time between last meeting, he would be there for his friends or to help anyone he knew.
