Dundalk Institute of Technology (DkIT) say that a recent survey has shown that 92% of DkIT Level 8 Science graduates are in full time employment or further study within 6 months of graduating.

A spokesperson for the college said: “As the leading higher education provider in the region DkIT is completely committed to science as it’s one of the fastest growing industry sectors both locally and nationally.

“The Institute’s recent investment in a new state of the art science building, has increased their capacity on Life Science, Health Science and Agri-Food programmes, helping DkIT to meet the growing demand from employers in the region for high-quality graduates in these specialised areas.”

Brendan McGrath, VP and Ireland Site Head, WuXi Biologics said: “We are honoured to support DkIT's commitment to fostering talent and enhancing employability among its science graduates. It is remarkable that 40% of DkIT's Biopharma graduates are now part of our team at WuXi Biologics, contributing significantly to our growth and success.

“Our partnership with DkIT is multifaceted, including the recent Women in STEM bursary, which underscores our dedication to empowering the next generation of female scientists. With the opening of the new Jocelyn Bell Burnell Science Building, DkIT continues to play a pivotal role in providing high-quality graduates for the burgeoning biopharma sector in Ireland, particularly in the North-East region."

DkIT opened the doors of its new Jocelyn Bell Burnell Science building last year, this facility will supply much of the needed industry standard graduates as the commercial value of biotherapeutic medicines is forecasted to grow exponentially in the next few years.

The success of the Irish biopharma industry is internationally recognised, and the Institute’s new science building offers a state-of-the-art Cell Culture facility which provides DkIT students enrolled in their Science programmes with the most up-to-date skills, training, research, and innovation opportunities for the manufacture of biotherapeutics.

“DkIT graduates have always been much sought after and are renowned for actively contributing to advancements in the areas of pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical and environmental science.

“The Institute is also currently involved in several exciting and award-winning science research projects both nationally and internationally that are changing the world we live in for the better,” the spokesperson concluded.
