Simon Harris said there were serious concerns in Ireland with delays to date

Taoiseach Simon Harris today spoke to the Prime Minister of Lebanon, Najib Mikati and brought up the murder of Private Sean Rooney in December 2022.

On the murder of Sean Rooney, and the serious injuries inflicted on Trooper Shane Kearney during an attack on Irish peacekeepers, the Taoiseach expressed frustration at suspects remaining at large.

The Taoiseach said there were serious concerns in Ireland with delays to date in the main suspect in the murder appearing in court.

The Taoiseach said he hoped a scheduled court hearing next week would proceed and that justice being done was essential for the families of Sean Rooney and Shane Kearney as well as all peacekeepers in the region.
