Creative Spark announces third Artist in Residence for 2024: Julie Corcoran

Originally from Dublin, Julie Corcoran moved to Cavan almost 25 years ago and she is looking forward to calling Dundalk home for the next two months.

Julie is no stranger to the Creative Spark Print Studio, and has attended various printmaking workshops facilitated by Print Studio Coordinator Gráinne Murphy. She also joined Creative Spark’s affiliated arts group, AAEX, in late 2021.

“It really is an amazing opportunity to develop and grow as an artist”, Julie commented. “With access to a studio and all the facilities Creative Spark has to offer, I feel blessed. Up until now I have produced digital prints but now I’ll have the opportunity to hand print my work with techniques like silkscreen, engraved woodblock and cyanotype.”placeholder image

Julie’s art practice involves manipulating her digital photographs using computer software to produce digital prints that look more like paintings than photographs. She has exhibited her work in solo and group exhibitions and is represented by three galleries on the island of Ireland; ArtisAnn, Belfast, Solart Gallery, Dublin and Hambly & Hambly, Enniskillen.

As part of her residency Julie wants to reach out to the community of Dundalk starting with a callout for participants for her “Womanhood” photographic project to mark International Women’s Day on Friday, 8th March.

Creative Spark says it would like to invite all women to join Julie at Creative Spark on International Women’s Day between 11:30 am and 3 pm to be part of Julie's “Womanhood” photographic project.placeholder image

Light refreshments will be provided with an opportunity to have your photograph taken and included in Julie's printmaking project; “Womanhood”.

Julie adds, “the images I take on the day will form the basis of my artworks produced at Creative Spark during my residency.

“It’s really very exciting and I’m very much looking forward to all the resulting conversations over coffee too!”
