A MOTORIST in Clare has been fined for speeding on National Slow Down Day.

During the 24 hour period of National Slow Down Day (7am-7am), GoSafe checked the speed of 225,685 vehicles and detected 592 vehicles travelling in excess of the applicable speed limit.

The detections - at various locations - were made by members of the Roads Policing Unit and the fleet of GoSafe vans as part of the 24-hour operation which concluded at 7am this Saturday.

The motorist was caught doing119km/h in a 100km/h Zone, on the N18 Clonmoney West Bunratty Clare.

Supported by the Road Safety Authority, the aim of National Slow Down Day, which runs twice a year, is to remind drivers of the dangers of speeding, increase compliance with speed limits and act as a deterrent to driving at excessive or inappropriate speed.

An Garda Síochána continues to appeal to drivers to comply with speed limits in order to reduce the number of speed related collisions, save lives and reduce injuries on our roads.
