The Clare Christmas Day swims are taking place in three separate locations throughout the county, all in aid of good causes.

For most, Christmas morning is all about being lazy, eating good food, and sitting by the fire, but for many, especially in County Clare, it is the time to embrace a frosty yet festive tradition; the Christmas Day swims, taking place in three separate locations throughout the county, all in aid of good causes.

A long-standing tradition, first taking place in 1989 and every year since, is the well-known and loved Lahinch Christmas Day swim, which is set to take place at 10am - attendees are being advised to note the earlier time this year is due to the tides.

Much like every other year, crowds will gather and brace themselves to plunge into the below-freezing water, to raise funds for Cancer Care West, a long established charity which helps cancer patients and families throughout the West and North West of Ireland, at no cost.

The Lahinch Christmas Day swim is a core part of the holidays for many families, and it is clear that this event will not be going anywhere!

If a cold morning swim is not your thing and you'd rather stay cosy in your pyjamas, you can donate to the worthy cause here.

If Lahinch is too far out or too early for you, fear not, as a Lough Derg Christmas Day swim is due to begin at 11am on the Mountshannon Harbour.

The 'Dip in the Derg' is in aid of the Raheen Community Hospital nursing home, and if that does not entice you enough, a number of Santa hats will be available for swimmers, along with complimentary hot drinks for those participating!

Last but certainly not least is the Killaloe-Ballina Christmas Day swim, that is due to take place at 12:30pm, which is perfect for those that come alive later in the day.

Beginning at the Two Mile Gate in Killaloe, and in keeping with the Christmas theme, organisers of this event promise classic Christmas music, nibbles, and drinks to keep the good vibes going!

The swim will be taking place in aid of Killaloe Tidy Towns and Killaloe Ballina Critical First Responders.

Good luck to those participating!
