CHILDREN who are due to start school in Clare this September are invited to visit their nearest library and collect a free Little Library Book Bag this June.

The Little Library Book Bag is a Right to Read initiative from Libraries Ireland. Libraries in Clare are delighted to offer a gift of a bag of books especially for children to celebrate starting school and to help them navigate this new experience.

Each bag contains a selection of books and information leaflets for children and parents to read together. The stories in the books are about starting school, being happy in yourself, and making friends. A library card and a special Little Library card wallet is also included with every bag so that each child can join the library when they collect their bag.

Speaking at the launch of the initiative, Clare County Librarian Helen Walsh said: “We hope that this gift will introduce children to a lifelong love of books and reading which they can share with their parents.”

Patricia Fitzgerald, Childrens’ Services Librarian, added: “Starting school can be worrying for both children and parents. The books in these bags will help children be school-ready and confident in themselves.”

Clare Library staff are looking forward to visits from children as they collect their bags and will also be available to advise parents on library resources and services during their visit.  It’s free to join the library. Parents must show ID when they join their child and themselves.
