Horse saved from river at Bunratty after grueling three hour rescue

"A very tired bunch of lads and an even more exhausted horse": Volunteers from Bunratty Search & Rescue spent hours recovering the animal
It was a job well done for one search and rescue crew this bank holiday Monday, as Bunratty Search & Rescue successfully rescued a young horse after an hours-long operation.
The horse was spotted in the Ratty River at Bunratty on Monday afternoon, June 3, and Bunratty Search & Rescue quickly launched a volunteer crew to assist the animal.
Sharing a picture of the incident on Facebook, the rescue service praised the four-man crew "who spent three hard hours" in the water.
After a number of hours, the crew managed to slip a harness around the exhausted horse's neck and swim it alongside the rescue boat, back to their slipway and safely out of the water.
A vet was called to the scene to assess its condition, and the horse has been taken in by Bunratty Folk Park until its owners can be located.
"Well done to our crew members today," Bunratty Search & Rescue posted on Facebook. "A professional job carried out by a very competent crew."
