School transport service to be restored for dozens of Clare students

DOZENS of Clare students who have been without a school bus service since September are celebrating after it was confirmed the service is to be restored.
A contractor was identified in recent weeks and services on the Meelick-Limerick city route will resume from this Monday, December 11.
Around 25 pupils, who attend school in Limerick, have been without school transport since the start of September, putting huge strain on them and their families.
Clare TD Cathal Crowe, has welcomed the announcement. "I’m delighted first and foremost for my neighbours, the parents and pupils of Meelick, who have been in contact with me for months on this bus issue. I’ve been in constant contact with Bus Éireann on this and all of the other routes that have been giving issues this school year and have had literally hundreds of parents emailing and phoning me and meeting me at clinics," he said.
Deputy Crowe says he has held several meetings with parents and Bus Eireann management in an effort to find a resolution.
“I asked Bus Éireann to consider splitting the Meelick to Limerick city service in two, so that it could be fulfilled by two mini buses. This made it easier to get drivers and this methodology will be used when the service returns next Monday morning,” he said in a statement.
Other politicians have also made representations on behalf of those impacted.
