TWO CLARE TDs have been informed that they are among the 52 Irish politicians banned from entering the Russian state.

Deputy Cathal Crowe was one of the key representatives from Ireland who had been placed on the sanction list by the Kremlin for what it claimed was expressing Russophobic sentiments over its decision to invade Ukraine.

An Taoiseach Michael Martin and Tanaiste Leo Varadkar is among the number, as is Clare Fine Gael TD Joe Carey, who chairs the Shannon Airport Oireachtas group and Senator Timmy Dooley, who also comes from the Banner.

Reacting to the news, Deputy Crowe said: "The Dept. of Foreign Affairs phoned me a short while ago to inform me that I’m now officially on the Kremlin’s ’black-list’ of politicians to be sanctioned."

Deputy Crowe described the news as  "a badge of honour" and added: "It will only serve to further strengthen my resolve to support Ukraine and her citizens."
