The late Tom Shannon will be sadly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him
THE WORD “gentleman” is a common theme in the countless tributes paid following the passing of Thomas (Tom) Shannon.
Mr Shannon, of Good Shepherd Avenue, Pennywell, and formerly of Aster Court, Keyes Park, Limerick, passed away peacefully at Milford Care Centre, surrounded by his loving family.
The popular man, late of the Civil Defence, Friends of the Elderly and over 40s soccer tournament, went to his God on Thursday.
Funeral will arrive on Monday, July 27, at St Michael’s Church, Denmark Street, for Requiem Mass at 12pm. Funeral afterwards to Mount St. Oliver Cemetery.
Mr Shannon is predeceased by wife Eileen, daughter Susan Neville and granddaughter Hazel Shannon. His passing is very deeply regretted by son Peter, daughters Jean, Ann and Eileen, sister Pauline, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, nephews, nieces, other relatives, friends and neighbours.
Many tributes have been paid on rip.ie with Mr Shannon described as a “gentleman” by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
“Tom was a gentleman and a great neighbour to all in Aster Court,” wrote one.
Another said: “I knew Tom from my time working at the Pennywell Day Centre and I always enjoyed our chats when I'd meet Tom on his daily stroll around the complex. Rest peacefully Tom.”
“A Gentleman with a capital G,” summed up one mourner.
A touching tribute reads: “Sorry to hear of Tom’s passing - a true gentleman and very caring person. I first got to know him when I went to work in Queen of Peace Credit Union, a great character so willing to help us all.
“His dedication, kindness and sense of humour will be remembered and never forgotten. Rest in Peace Tom with your lovely Eileen, Susan and Hazel.”
The Shannon family, in the death notice, extended their deepest gratitude to the staff of Milford Care Centre, in particular Aileen, home carers, GP Dr Boylan, Annemarie and the team at Old Windmill Medical Centre, Roxtown Medical Centre, in particular, Una and Ray Ryan and fellow residents of Good Shepherd Avenue for their care and support.
“We are truly grateful to you all,” they said.
The Shannon family have asked for donations, if desired, to Milford Care Centre.
May he rest in peace.
