A ‘Ray’ of sunshine to launch new Women’s Shed group in Limerick

TWO AND a half hours of ‘guaranteed craic’ is promised for the official launch of a woman-only amenity, when a national radio broadcast will take place to mark the opening.
Mungret GAA hall will be hosting the grand launch of the Women’s Shed Limerick and radio presenter Ray D’Arcy will be broadcasting live from the venue.

Women’s Shed Limerick held registration evenings in September 2022, and over 150 women attended and signed up on the night. There are now 225 paid members.
According to the Women’s Shed committee: “The aim of our shed is to tackle social isolation for women in our community and provide a space where women can come together and make new friendships in a comfortable and safe environment.
“Our members have a wide variety of interests - some of the ideas that came from the women included women’s health programmes, yoga, art classes, burlesque dancing, self-defence classes, citizens advice, Zumba, car maintenance and social media classes.
“There is something for everyone and we are so proud of what we have achieved in such a short time of being a fully functioning community group within the area,” they concluded.
The Women’s Shed offer a selection of free talks twice a week and to date, have already hosted over 50 events.
They did, however, share that their biggest “obstacle” is locating a “permanent home” for the group.
They hope the people of Limerick can “help and support” them to overcome this challenge.
