Almost 500 pupils from Ukraine are now enrolled in Limerick schools

THE NUMBER of Ukrainian children enrolled at primary and secondary schools across Limerick has been updated.
According to the Department of Education, in total, 497 pupils between the ages 5-18 are currently enrolled in the Treaty County.
Of these students, 305 are registered at primary level, and 192 are registered at post-primary level.
This data is accurate as of January 31, 2023.
The Limerick figures contribute to a nationwide data retrieval, where it was found that a total of 14,482 Ukrainian pupils have been enrolled in schools across Ireland.
Of these, 9,334 are primary students while 5,148 are post-primary students.
To assist with the transition of Ukrainian students and their families into Irish schools, the group Regional Education and Language Teams (REALT) is in operation.
This group is hosted by the 16 regional education and training boards around Ireland.
According to the Department of Education, these teams ensure that clear, accessible information flows are in place between schools, local education support services and national support structures in relation to those arriving from Ukraine.
It has been recorded by the government that there are already up to 73,064 Ukrainian arrivals in Ireland, with a significant increase in the number of those entering under International Protection.
According to government guidelines, any Ukrainian family which is looking to enrol a child in a school in Ireland can approach the school directly.
For pre-school services, those who have been granted Temporary Protection, will have the full cost of childcare covered under the National Childcare Scheme.
