An Bord Pleanála to decide on Limerick business expansion plans

A LOCAL councillor is the sole objector to plans by a company to expand its premises in Limerick.

Serosep, which manufactures medical products, is seeking permission to construct a new manufacturing and warehousing building at Annacotty Business Park.

In a statement to council planners, the firm’s chief executive Dermot Scanlon said Serosep is seeking to move its staff from temporary accommodation.

“The company is currently housing its R&D operations in eight portacabins and part of the current expansion plan is to replace these portacabins with a new R&D building including state-of-the-art laboratories to allow for a further expansion of the R&D team,” he wrote.

Council approved the proposals, but they have since been appealed to An Bord Pleanala by local Green councillor Sean Hartigan.

He said while he welcomes the expansion plan, he wants to see an assessment of vehicle use on the roads around Annacotty Business Park before there is any further development in this park.

There needs to be a study of current and future traffic levels on the R506 which runs from east county Limerick to the park, he said, pointing out that any new development will cause safety issues for cyclists.
