'An open invitation': Homeowners urged to secure sheds and garages after thefts in County Limerick village

Valuable gardening equipment including a generator was stolen in overnight thefts from garages in the Adare area
LIMERICK gardai warn homeowners to lock their garages and sheds following thefts from garages in Adare.
Sergeant Michelle O’Halloran, Crime Prevention Officer Henry Street Garda Station said:
“We had two overnight thefts from garages in the Adare area. In both cases, valuable gardening equipment like lawn mowers, hedge cutters, leaf blowers and a generator were stolen. Thankfully, there was no damage to the properties, but in both incidents it appears access was gained through unlocked garage doors.
Sgt O’Halloran explained that an unlocked door is an open invitation. “Garages often contain thousands of euro worth of tools and equipment, so they’re very attractive to thieves.
“Lock garages and sheds every time, even if you’re only popping into the house for a few minutes. If you have valuable tools, photograph them, record serial numbers where possible, and consider marking them with your Eircode. Good lighting and CCTV can also act as a deterrent,” concluded the local crime prevention officer.
“If someone offers you expensive tools or gardening equipment at a price that seems far too good to be true, there’s a good chance they may be stolen. Walk away and let Gardaí know if you have concerns.”
