An Post apologises as closure date of Limerick post office confirmed

Henry Street branch is to be shuttered from this Friday evening

An Post confirmed the news, and apologised, saying its contractor made contact on Tuesday confirming the branch would be shuttered at close of business on Friday.
An Post will transfer customer accounts to its main city centre post office in Cecil Street, about 500 metres away, a process which is under way right now.
"An Post apologises to customers for any inconvenience caused by this unforeseen circumstance. Luckily we have our main office at Cecil Street nearby and will be working hard to ensure a seamless transfer for our customers," a spokesperson for the postal service said.
The news of the closure was confirmed last week, but a slower wind-down was initially expected.
There were previously post office branches serving the local community: up to 2012, a unit in O'Connell Avenue, now a private residence, served the area.
Before that, there was an office at nearby Clontarf Place, a site which is now earmarked as an apartment development.
