THE NUMBER of cruelty cases seen by Limerick Animal Welfare (LAW) has continued to rise, said sanctuary manager Marie O’Connor.

“The sanctuary is full and yet people have abandoned unwanted puppies at the gates. The sad reality is animals are still being disposed of and treated cruelly,” she said.

Ms O’Connor lists out a number of examples which include Whiskey, a German Shepherd, who was found “horrifically emaciated, covered in mange and sores all over his body”.

“Whiskey had a long recovery and was adopted to a wonderful home where he has continued his rehabilitation and recovery,” said Ms O’Connor.

Lurchers are the most abused dogs in Ireland, she said.

“LAW has treated multiple dogs with badly broken legs and Lurcher puppies emaciated and riddled with mange. LAW has rescued many Bichons and poodle mix dogs with terribly matted coats that were dumped across the county,” said Ms O’Connor.

The cat unit is also very busy with kittens being found and brought to the sanctuary as late as December.

LAW has dogs, cats, rabbits, horses, and ponies available for adoption.

“Please adopt, don’t shop. Rescue is best. To apply to adopt please see our website, limerickanimalwelfare.com, or email us.

This year we have been overwhelmed with the generosity of the public sending food, toys and treats for the animals at LAW.

Every animal at LAW had presents on Christmas Day.

“LAW is a charity and relies on donations to continue helping stray and abandoned animals,” said Ms O'Connor.

For electronic transfers, the LAW Bank account details are IBAN: IE35BOFI90430989515042 BIC: BOFIIE2D or you send payment via PayPal.

You can also support the charity by donating via Facebook and Instagram.

Alternatively, you can donate €4 by texting the word‘ LAW4’ to 50300.
