SAINT Mary’s Cathedral, Limerick has announced the appointment of its second artist in residence, Ester Redlichová.

Ester will begin her residency in mid-September and will be in post until the end of October. The theme of her residency will be ‘Impressions of Memory & Sacred Space.’

Speaking on her appointment, the Dean of Limerick, the Very Rev’d Niall Sloane said: “We are delighted to welcome Ester to Saint Mary’s. Art and beauty are so important to us and we see this residency as another opportunity to engage art, people and the Cathedral.

"I wish to thank Ms Etain McCooey of Limerick City and County Council who helped us with this project which is funded by the Arts Council and Limerick City and County Council, through the Limerick Arts Programme 2026.”

Ester Redlichová is a Limerick city–based visual artist working out of Wickham Street Studios. A graduate of the Limerick School of Art and Design (BA Hons in Printmaking Contemporary Practice), her multi-disciplinary work spans printmaking, painting, analogue media, and socially engaged practice.

Her work also explores the intersections of physical space, material memory, and community narrative. A member of Visual Artists Ireland, Ester’s practice frequently moves between studio work and collaborative public engagement, creating participatory spaces that invite people to connect with local heritage and landscape.

For the artist-in-residence opportunity, Ester will merge tactile printmaking, analogue media, and community audio archives. This project aims to honour the rich history, architecture, and living heritage of Saint Mary’s Cathedral.
