ASKEATON Tidy Towns are celebrating their victory in the third week of this year’s Limerick Going for Gold competition.

The Tidy Towns group now advances straight through to the grand final of the Going for Gold competition that takes place later this year.

Ballinacurra Weston, Galbally, Glin, Rockhill/Bruree and Pallaskenry who didn’t make it through are still in with a chance of a place in the all-important final as judges will be selecting wildcards following the initial rounds of Going for Gold.

Askeaton Tidy Towns has a large committee and an even larger group of volunteers who are able to keep the area in check and well-maintained.

The implementation of rainwater gardens has helped take pressure off the town’s sewerage network. The committee is also known for their maintenance of the River Deel.

These are some of the reasons as to why Asleaton was selected as the public choice in the third round of the public vote.

There are two more weeks left in the initial round of the Going for Gold Tidy Towns competition which will see a further 12 community groups battle it out by outlining why they deserve to win a cash prize of €10,000.

This week sees Abbeyfeale, Croom, Feenagh, Garrienderk, Patrickswell and Tournafulla give their reasons as to why they should win the Going for Gold competition.

Representatives of each of the community groups featured this week will be interviewed on Live 95 this Thursday after which the public vote will be open for 24 hours to select this week’s winner.
