Two ambulances have been deployed for Irish Red Cross teams in Limerick

TWO NEW state-of-the-art ambulances have been awarded to Irish Red Cross teams in Limerick.

Irish Red Cross volunteers in both south and east Limerick have collected two brand new ambulances to fuel the vital community services they provide throughout Co Limerick.

The new vehicles will provide a more comfortable experience for the patient and require less manual lifting for the volunteer crew.

Funding for the community first responder vehicles was awarded through the CLÁR programme, on behalf of the Department of Rural and Community Development.

Six Irish Red Cross branches, including the two in county Limerick, were awarded a total of €400,000 to help with the purchase of vehicles.

A spokesperson for the local Irish Red Cross volunteers said: “We are delighted to drive our new ambulance to its new home in Co Limerick.

“We have many volunteers who are committed to doing their best to help people and communities in times of emergency and crisis.

“With this ambulance, we can help to deliver better outcomes for the people of the local areas we serve.”

Secretary general of Irish Red Cross Deirdre Garvey said: “The Irish Red Cross branches and volunteers provide an invaluable service to their communities – helping people in times of crisis, and enabling our communities to attend events safely.

“This investment in community first responder vehicles is a great boost for disaster preparedness, emergency response and the health of our rural communities.

“We are delighted to see Irish Red Cross volunteers empowered to act locally and support better outcomes for communities.”

Irish Red Cross ambulances provide community support and first aid response at events throughout the country.

The volunteers at these branches provided first aid support at almost 80 events alone in 2023. The Irish Red Cross has a national footprint through its 73 branches nationally

The Red Cross is the world’s largest humanitarian movement. The Irish National Society of the Red Cross was founded in 1939. Today it has more than 3,000 members aged from four to 84.
