GVM’S Tom Crosse didn’t have to jump through hoops to sell Hurdlestown House at auction.
The old cut stone residence in need of repair and 74 acres in Broadford, Co Clare was guided at €1m, and that was the opening bid in GVM’s Limerick city auction rooms in Glentworth Street last Thursday, September 5.
The bids quickly climbed before Mr Crosse dropped the gavel at €1,112,000. It is understood all the interested parties were from the business community as opposed to agricultural. It is believed a businessman based in Shannon won the day.
As 24 acres of the land is woodland and the historical property requires some TLC, it represents a high price per acre.

The property exudes enormous character, reflective of its period architecture, with features such as high ceilings, original woodwork, and large sash windows that allow ample natural light to fill the spacious rooms together with numerous cut limestone features on the very attractive facade.
Internally the property requires refurbishing however there is extensive living and bedroom accommodation over three floors that could be renovated to create an idyllic and distinctive home.
It is not known what plans the new owner has following his purchase.
