The Little Blue Hero continues to smile after his latest major operation

LIMERICK'S Little Blue Hero Noah Quish is back home after undergoing successful scoliosis surgery in Dublin.

It is the latest surgery overcome by the seven-year-old from Monaleen. After Noah was born he was diagnosed with severe obstructive laryngomalacia, scoliosis, chiari malformation of the brain, severe sleep apnoea and a chromosome deletion.

Noah has had numerous life-saving surgeries and has spent much of his short life in hospitals. But through it all the son of Ballylanders couple - Una and John - keeps on smiling.

He even met the current Ireland soccer team manager John O’Shea, who brought the Europa League trophy to Crumlin Children's Hospital. Noah dressed up in his Little Blue Hero garda uniform for the occasion.

Una told the Leader they got home on Saturday evening after the surgery to correct the curvature in his spine on Monday, April 15.

“We’re delighted to be home. He is doing well, just very sore but making progress every day. He didn't want to leave all the lovely nurses and staff in Crumlin,” said Una.

And they in turn were sad to say goodbye to Noah who captures the hearts of everybody he meets with his sparkling eyes and mischievous smile.

Una said the scoliosis was having a big impact on Noah’s quality of life.

“He was getting tired and drained from it. It was actually a struggle trying to get him on the bus to go to school because he was just sore and he loves school and getting on the bus,” said Una. Noah was on the operating table for a total of six hours in Crumlin Children’s Hospital.

“They got a good correction. They weren't actually expecting to get him that straight now. He was sore and worn out,” said Una. Noah can always rely on his big sister Leah to give him a boost and to keep him moving.

Una and John continue to do everything they can for their little boy and are going to Chicago during the summer for specialist speech and language therapy and feeding therapy.

The fundraising Noah Quish Road Run, in association with The Morning Star Vintage Club, took place in Ballylanders last weekend. The Quish family wish to thank everybody who has supported Noah on his brave journey.
