BREAKING: Major Limerick garda operation ongoing over Traveller feud
It is believed that this search operation is linked to a long-running simmering feud between two rival Traveller factions in Limerick
A MAJOR garda operation is ongoing at locations on the Childers Road, Limerick Live has learned.
Searches commenced at about 3:45pm this Monday afternoon. The Armed Support Unit and gardaí, both in uniform and plainclothes, are currently at the scene.
Onlookers contacted Limerick Live and said up to five garda vehicles, some of which are unmarked, have been seen at the locations. It is understood that the road and field are being searched.
It is believed that this garda search operation is linked to a long-running simmering feud between two rival Traveller factions in Limerick, which erupted over this past weekend.
It culminated on Sunday evening, August 16, when around 50 masked men armed with handguns, shotguns, slash hooks and iron bars were seen walking on the Childers Road towards the Tipperary Roundabout on the outskirts of the city.
Numerous videos from both sides of the feud have been shared and widely circulated on social media.
An Garda Síochána have been contacted for comment.
