Calls for more garda resources as vandals smash windows in Limerick city centre

Gardai have launched an investigation after thousands of euro worth of damage was caused by vandals who smashed a number of windows at stores in Limerick city centre.
The windows of several stores at Cruises Street as well as the former Chez le Fab cafe bar at Arthur’s Quay were damaged sometime early on Friday night.

The apparant rampage has angered businesses and retailers – some of whom have called for additional garda resources to be deployed in the city centre.
“The gardaí need to be allocated more resources they don’t have enough no matter what spin is given, this can be done with the stroke of a pen. And for those who say it can’t be done I’ll draw your attention to another place in Ireland where assaults have plummeted, that is Killkenny which is an inviting and vibrant safe town,” said Dave Ryan, owner of Cobblestone Joes.
“Enough is enough the law needs to be changed in order to deal with the “untouchable” age group that are causing this antisocial behaviour and rampant assaults, which means the politicians need to take ownership of this. If not then they shouldn’t be representing our city,” he added.
Gardai at Henry Street say they are aware of the incidents of criminal damage and are investigating the matter.
It’s expected they will speak with representatives of the stores which were targeted this Saturday.
No arrests have been made so far and anyone with information can contact (061) 212400.
