Car owners urged to secure their vehicles in Limerick

Almost all car thefts in Limerick in recent weeks involved unlocked vehicles or valuables in plain sight
GARDAÍ in Limerick are emphasising their warning to car owners to secure their vehicles.
Sergeant Ber Leetch, the crime prevention officer at Henry Street garda station said that in recent weeks, all but two cars that had things stolen from them, were left unlocked and that another two were locked, but had something of value in plain sight.
She said: “Remove everything from your car, lock it and make sure it is locked.”
On June 12, a worker parked his van on Moore Street in Cappamore and he was going in and out of a building, doing a job.
Just before 2.15pm, he realised that some equipment, including a dash cam was missing.
Gardaí viewed CCTV and it showed the passing criminal who just saw a chance, got into the van and stole the items.
Sergeant Leech warned: “Criminals are opportunists, do not give them the opportunity to steal from you and keep vehicles locked.”
