A MAN is to appear in court following the seizure of a car in Limerick in connection with a money laundering investigation.
On Wednesday, December 11, gardaí seized a car in Limerick and have subsequently arrested and charged a man in his 30s.
This is linked to the seizure of approximately €100,000 cocaine and cannabis in a search in Tipperary on Tuesday evening, December 10.
Gardaí in the Tipperary Division stopped a vehicle on the M8 near Thurles shortly before 9pm on Tuesday, December 11.
In the course of a search, over €27,000 in cash was discovered concealed in the vehicle. Electronic items were seized alongside a small quantity of cocaine.
The driver of the vehicle, the man in his 30s, was arrested on suspicion of offences contrary to Section 7 of the Criminal Justice (Money Laundering & Terrorist Financing) Act 2010 and detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at a garda station in Co. Tipperary.
In a follow-up search of a residence in Tipperary town later that evening, gardaí seized €70,000 of suspected cocaine and €30,000 of suspected cannabis. A significant amount of drugs paraphernalia was also seized.
