Car stolen from Limerick driveway as owner distracted
A LIMERICK woman had her car stolen from her driveway as she briefly left it unattended.
On Friday, November 17 a woman in her late 30s turned on the ignition in her car at 8:45am outside her home in Castleconnell.
She returned to her house for a moment but left the car engine running in the driveway.
She saw a male run up to her car, jump in and drive it away.
Sergeant Ber Leetch, Crime Prevention Officer at Henry Street garda station said: "I know that in the cold weather, some people turn on their car to defrost the windscreen and return to the house, this is not a good idea."
Meanwhile, on Thursday, November 16 a man in his early 60s woke at 4:10am at his home in Ballyclough to the sound of his car being driven out of his driveway.
He had left his keys in the car, a criminal saw his chance and drove off in it.
Sergeant Leetch said: "Always stay in your car if the engine is running, make sure it is securely locked if you are leaving it unattended and store your car keys in a safe place within the house but out of sight of windows."
