Moya Brennan, Emma Langford and Thomond Primary School to sprinkle their musical magic

CANON Donal McNamara will be hoping a concert doesn’t raise the roof in St Munchin’s Church as it is already in “dire need of restoration”.

Moya Brennan and Limerick’s own Emma Langford and Thomond Primary School choir will perform festive songs this Thursday, December 12 at 7.30pm.

Moya will be performing songs from her Christmas album, plus many of her famous hits that audiences around Ireland have come to know and love. She will be performing with her full band as part of her Irish Christmas tour.

Emma and children from Thomond Primary School will sprinkle their musical magic during the night. Tickets, €25, with proceeds in aid of the restoration of the church.

The ecclesiastical building on Clancy Strand is 104-years-old and “in dire need of restoration” said Canon Donal McNamara.

He said it has to be re-roofed, the heating and lighting upgraded.

“The one thing all parishioners keep asking is, ‘When is it going to be painted internally?’ I always say, after it has been re-roofed.

“Pre-Covid the re-roofing was estimated at a cost of around €1,000,000. Right now, I’m awaiting a costing for the re-roofing from the quantity surveyor which I hope to have shortly,” said Canon McNamara.

The long-serving priest of 51 years said parishioners are hugely supportive, encouraging and just long to see their church refurbished.

“All are extremely optimistic and hopeful that the refurbishment will commence in the New Year,” said the Manister-born priest. He warmly welcomes any assistance and has been selling slates for €25 each.

“So if you are interested in purchasing one please get in touch,” said Fr McNamara.

Tickets for this Thursday's Christmas concert, December 12 in St Munchin’s Church are available at the church and local outlets.
