MORE than €220,000 worth of cannabis, cocaine and heroin has been seized in Limerick, the third big drugs find in two days.

As part of Operation Tara, which is focused on smashing the drugs trade in Ireland, officers swooped to recover the substances at a home in St Mary's Park in the city on Thursday, August 1.

"A woman in her 50s was arrested and is being detained under section two of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act at a garda station in Limerick," gardai said in a statement on Thursday evening.

It follows two other big seizures in the same area of Limerick on Wednesday, July 31 and Thursday, August 1.

In a statement issued earlier on Thursday evening, gardai said one man in his 30s was arrested during the course of the search operation which took place across Wednesday and Thursday this week.

Cocaine and cannabis with an estimated value of €200,000 and €250,000 in cash were seized after gardai executed a search warrant on a number of homes on Wednesday.

In a follow up search the following day, suspected cocaine with an estimated value of €100,000, and €250,000 cash were seized.

The searches were assisted by the Garda armed support unit and the Garda dog unit.

The drugs seized will now be sent to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis.
