Cuts to speed limit in Limerick under consideration

LimerickCity and County Council weighing up impact of speed cut in village
COUNCIL is looking at potentially cutting the speed limit for traffic in Drombanna.
It follows a motion from Fine Gael councillor Sarah Kiely seeking table-top ramps to be installed in the area – and for the maximum speed to be chopped from 60 kilometres-per-hour down to 50 kilometres-per-hour.
In a written response at April’s metropolitan district meeting, roads director Patricia Liddy said the proposal to cut the speed limit would be considered, but warned this can take up to 12 months to implement.

She said it is unlikely a table-top ramp to slow down traffic will be possible on the R512 running through Drombanna, due to the fact it is ranked as a strategic regional road.
Elsewhere, Ms Liddy ruled out any speed limit cuts at Huntsfield Estate, Dooradoyle.
This is despite what Social Democrats councillor Elisa O’Donovan described as “significant speeding” in the area. Ms Liddy said under Jake’s Law the limit was already cut to 30 kimometres-per-hour.
