Dundalk Harpist plays compositions based on Irish Folklore in No.10 Downing street

Hi! My name is Rosie Murphy and I am 21 years old. I am from Dundalk and I am now currently studying classical harp in the Royal Conservatoire in the Hague, Netherlands. This month I was invited to play my compositions for solo harp in No.10 Downing street, London. The music is based on the story of ‘Lí Ban’ who is Ireland’s lesser known mermaid saint. Her name translates as ‘the beauty of women’ in old Irish. Before performing my recital, I had the opportunity to speak to the audience about the story in the Irish language and translated it for them. It was an amazing experience. I wrote the music this summer under the mentorship of Neil Martin and the music was also performed at Saint James’ Palace, London, The Lyric theatre Belfast and The Sonic Arts research centre Belfast. It’s been a fantastic experience!

Attached are 2 photos of me performing in Downing street.
