MEMBERS of the public have been invited to look at early-stage proposals which would connect Wickham Street to Clare Street in Limerick city.

A public information event, which will showcase a number of the potential routes, is to be held on Tuesday, December 19, between 6pm and 8pm, at the Strand Hotel on the Ennis Road.

The routes, which would operate as part of the Active Travel Scheme, come following a round of non-statutory public consultation which was held between April 26 and May 24 2023.

According to Limerick City and County Council (LCCC), work has been ongoing on compiling an Economic Assessment Report on each of the proposed routes.

This work has involved getting businesses' viewpoints on the suggested routes, through questionnaires and surveys.

The impact of trade in both areas is something being considered in the report.

Senior engineer with the Active Travel team at LCCC, Sean McGlynn, said they took on board alot of important feedback from the previous consultation.

“Work on the project has now advanced to a stage whereby it’s appropriate for the team to ensure all stakeholders are fully informed about its current status as we head into 2024,” said Mr McGlynn.

The proposals would connect the Colbert Station Quarter to Park Canal and in turn, the University of Limerick via a pedestrian and cycle facility.

After this event, it’s expected that a second non-statutory public consultation session will be held in early 2024, to once again get feedback from stakeholders.
