Fine for Limerick woman who moved her car to free ball

A WOMAN was before Newcastle West Court after a series of events that began with a ball getting stuck under her car.
Clara Wall, aged 26, of Arra View, Newcastle West pleaded guilty to no driving licence and driving without insurance.
Garda Dylan McCarthy gave evidence of attending a minor road traffic collision at her address on June 26, 2021 and noting the offences.
Michael Lane, solicitor for Ms Wall, said his client’s vehicle was parked up at the time.
“She was out on maternity leave and it was Covid times,” said Mr Lane.
The solicitor said a neighbour’s ball had got stuck under Ms Wall’s car. The solicitor said Ms Wall moved her car to release the ball and while doing so her car came into contact with a neighbour’s vehicle.
“It was very minimal,” said Mr Lane.
The solicitor said Ms Wall needs her car as she works as a nurse in a nursing home and asked Judge Carol Anne Coolican not to disqualify her from driving.
The judge asked Garda McCarthy about the damage to the neighbour’s vehicle.
“There was very little damage,” said Garda McCarthy.
Judge Coolican asked the investigating garda if Ms Wall told him on the day she was moving the car due to a ball. “Yes,” said Garda McCarthy.
Judge Coolican fined Ms Wall €150 for not having insurance and she exercised her discretion not to disqualify her from driving.
The driving licence offence was taken into consideration.
