LIMERICK City Fire and Rescue Service were dispatched to an apartment complex in the heart of the city this Thursday evening.

A building was evacuated as onlookers witnessed fire crews enter Richmond Court, in Mount Kennett Place.

They were seen entering the complex with specialist equipment. An area around the apartment was taped off for a period of time.

Concerned residents from a number of neighbouring apartment blocks watched on as the staff set about identifying the danger.

After a time, occupants of Richmond Court were allowed to re-enter the building.

The call-out came after smoke was seen coming through one of the windows of an apartment. It triggered the alarm of a neighbouring office at ground level.

A spokesperson for Limerick Fire and Rescue Service confirmed three of its appliances attended the scene from Mulgrave Street, having received the call just after 8.10pm. They were on site until just before 9pm.
