A TOTAL of €3.81 million has been announced for housing adaptations for older and disabled people in Limerick.

The funding will help facilitate those in Limerick, who are eligible, to continue living independently in their own homes.

Of the 2023 funding allocation of €3.81m for Limerick, the exchequer will provide €3.05m while Limerick City and County Council will provide the remaining €763,088.

The funding announcement was made by Minister of State and Limerick city TD Kieran O’Donnell.

“This allocation will build on the success of last year where we exceeded the number of home adaptations initially targeted,” he said.

“We want to empower and enable people to live independently in their own homes for as long as possible – these grants help us to do just that.

“They also provide a boost to the local Limerick economy, creating employment opportunities for local contractors,” he added.

Grants of up to €30,000 are available to assist disabled and older people in carrying out necessary work to make a house more suitable for their day to day needs.

Additionally, grants of up to €8,000 are available to assist older people to have necessary repairs or improvements carried out on their homes. Grants of up to €6,000 are available for mobility aids.
