Further Limerick childcare service closes as mercury continues to soar

Facility closes at lunchtime this Thursday ‘in interest of health, safety and wellbeing’ of children and staff
A CHILDCARE facility in Limerick’s suburbs closed at lunchtime this Thursday as Limerick continues to experience extreme temperatures.
The decision was made by the creche on Wednesday evening after Met Eireann forecast the mercury would rise above 30 degrees Celsius this Thursday.
It’s currently 31 degrees, a forecast for the Munster province shows, with Met Eireann stating Thursday will be “hot and humid”.
As a result of this, the business closed at noon.
“Despite our best efforts to keep the rooms cool, temperatures within the building are expected to become uncomfortably high for the children throughout the afternoon. This is not an easy decision to make and we understand that it might cause some inconvenience but health and safety of the children and our staff are our priority,” the owners of the childcare facility wrote in a letter to parents.
Earlier this week, the soaring temperatures sparked the temporary closure of another childcare facility.
It will continue to be warm and muggy across Limerick this Thursday, with a mix of cloud and clear spells.
Some showers will develop, a few of these possibly heavy and thundery, with a chance of localised flooding
Overnight temperatures will still remain as high as 20 degrees.
As for Friday, it will be warm and humid again with sunny spells and showers.
Highest temperatures will range from 19 to 26 degrees, coolest near the south coast. Light and variable winds will become mostly moderate southerly in the afternoon.
Cooler temperatures are accepted to come this weekend as the heatwave recedes.
