Green Limerick: Students get ready for the Junk Kouture World Final

THE FINAL countdown is underway for three Limerick students for the Junk Kouture World Final.
Ameliia Karashtefan, Viktoriia Romanchenko and Natalie Quinn Sheehan of Colaiste Nano Nagle are among 60 teams from Ireland, the UK, France, Italy, the USA, and the UAE who will present couture designs made entirely from recycled materials.
The Junk Kouture World Final will be hosted at The Helix in the heart of the Dublin City University Campus on March 3 and 4.
The project by the Limerick trio is entitled I’m Your Venus and is made from old tents, floor insulation and bottle caps.
The Colaiste Nano Nagle group are one of just 10 from across Ireland to reach the Junk Kouture World Final. Their place was confirmed last October.
Junk Kouture is open to 12 to 19-year-olds and challenges young people to design, upcycle, and create high end Kouture from recycled junk.
This year’s event marks 15 years of Junk Kouture in Ireland, celebrating its impact in fostering sustainable, creative talent.
After debuting its first World Final in Abu Dhabi and impressing audiences in Monaco with its second, Dublin now has the honour of hosting the third World Final, showcasing Ireland’s pivotal role in promoting youth creativity and circular innovation.
Finalists will present breathtaking couture designs made entirely from recycled materials. From mussel shells to window blinds, expect jaw-dropping innovation and craftsmanship as these young designers compete for the coveted World Designer of the Year title.
Junk Kouture has been a transformative force for young people, empowering them to reimagine waste as a resource and igniting a passion for sustainability and innovation.
