Mr Leddin has been chosen once again to represent the party in the next general election

LIMERICK TD Brian Leddin has been chosen to once again run as Green Party candidate for the next Dáil.

The Mayor hopeful was announced as the second Limerick person to be declared in the running for the next Dáil, despite the date for a general election not announced.

The other Limerick person running in the next general election is the Mid-West Hospital Campaign's (MWHC) representative by activist Melanie Sheehan Cleary.

Mr Leddin was knocked out of the running for Limerick’s first directly elected mayor in the fifth count, having gotten 2,303 votes by the public. Mayor John Moran was elected in the 12th count.

The Green Party have announced two other candidates to represent them alongside Mr Leddin for the next Dáil, which include Marc Ó Cathasaigh TD of Waterford and councillor Hazel Chu of Dublin Bay South.

In 2020, Mr Leddin made history as he was Limerick’s first ever Green Party TD and in May 2019, he became Limerick's first elected Green Party councillor.

In the last general election it was a head-to-head clash with fellow northsider Cllr Frankie Daly, who also went for Limerick’s first directly elected mayor this year.

Also in the last general election, the Green Party had the most gains among smaller parties, increasing their seats from three to twelve, with Mr Leddin chosen to represent Limerick nationally.
