St Mary’s Prize Band, based at Mary Street in Limerick city centre, welcomed two groups from the US

A Limerick city prize band welcomed more than 50 musicians from the USA, as its members marked a new connection.

St Mary’s Prize Band, based at Mary Street in the city centre, welcomed two groups from the United States of America over the May Bank Holiday weekend.

Members of the Stony Creek Fife and Drum Corp from the US state of Connecticut were joined by members of Camden Continentals Fife and Drum Corp, located in New York.

While St Mary’s have a long-time friendship with Stony Creek dating back to the 1970s, it’s a new connection they have built with Camden Continentals.

The two bands have amalgamated to do a tour of Ireland across the month of May.

A drinks reception was held in the band hall, and some tunes were played to liven up the atmosphere.

St Mary’s president Jack McGrath was on hand to formally welcome the musicians.

Afterwards, they all went to St Mary’s RFC clubhouse where food and refreshments were laid on.

There was plenty of fife and drum march playing and a sing song to finish the day!

Many of the visitors from the USA stated that this visit to Limerick and St Mary's Band was the highlight of their trip to Ireland and will live long in the memory of those present!
