AROUND 250 Limerick students are set to take part in Ireland’s creative thinking programme, The Big Idea.

Students from several schools across the city and county will take part in a creative thinking programme, which is teaching problem-solving and critical thinking to teenagers across the country.

In Limerick, the schools taking part in The Big Idea include Northside Youthreach (Moyross), Glenstal Abbey School (Murroe), Coláiste Iósaef Community College (Kilmallock), Coláiste na Trócaire (Rathkeale), John the Baptist Community School (Hospital), Coláiste Chiaráin (Croom), Thomond Community College (Moylish).

In Newcastle West, Scoil Mhuire agus Íde, Scoil Mhuire agus Ide and Bothar Bui, and Desmond College will also take part.

This year, the programme is offering a top prize of €20,000 at the Aviva Broker Community Fund Awards under its Diversity and Inclusion category, which supports expanding its offering to some of the most disadvantaged students across Ireland.

Limerick-based Financial Advisor, Darragh Goggin, who nominated the creative thinking programme, said: “I know the importance of encouraging our young people to challenge themselves and broaden their experiences as they go through their school career. I look forward to seeing the impact these funds will make to all of our communities.”
