Hurling fans advised of 'significant' traffic restrictions ahead of Limerick-Cork clash

MOTORISTS are being advised that "significant" road closures will be in place in Limerick city this Sunday afternoon before and after the Munster SHC match between Limerick and Cork at TUS Gaelic Grounds.
Gardai say traffic diversions and road closures will be in place around the Ennis road area of the city and the surrounding areas from 2pm with the match throwing in at 4pm.
In a public notice, Limerick City and County Council has confirmed the routes that will be closed. They including Union Cross/Ennis Road, Shelbourne Road and Lower Shelbourne Road and the Ennis Road from Henry Street to Ivan’s Cross.
Supporters from both counties are being urged to arrive at the venue early and it was announced on Friday that Limerick band Hermitage Green will be performing from 2.30pm as there is no curtain-raiser before the match.
More than 40,000 supporters are expected to attend this afternoon's match and motorists are being advised that traffic will be diverted via the Northern Ring Road, Clonmacken Road, Shannon Bridge and Thomond Bridge.
Match-goers are advised to be parked “at least one hour” before the match starts and to use on-street parking which is free on a Sunday.
A spokesperson for the local authority said prohibited parking will not be tolerated. This includes parking on “green areas” or “blocking of private property in residential areas”.
Limerick City and County Council, An Garda Síochana and Limerick County GAA Board are warning that illegal parking will result in vehicles being removed and towed away.
The match will be broadcast on RTÉ 2 television and there will be full coverage on limericklive.ie.
