IN YEARS gone by every parish and nearly every townland in West Limerick had its own band of Wrenboys when musicians, dancers and singers travelled within their locality, bringing fun and laughter into homes on St Stephen’s Day.
While that day is gone, the tradition lives on and West Limerick, in particular, remains a stronghold for the Wrenboys.
Carrigkerry remains a national beacon, having won several national Wrenboy titles over the years. This year was no different as they once more entertained with their music, dancing and superb costumes.
On Monday (St Stephen's Day) they played, sang, danced and entertained on the roads of Carrigkerry, Knockdown Arms, Kilcolman, Creeves Cross, Ardagh before finishing with a big performance in the Square in Newcastle West.
