A SPECIAL celebration was held in Limerick to mark six months since a temporary accommodation centre first received Ukrainian residents.
Deputy Mayor of the City and County of Limerick Councillor Dan McSweeney visited Tara House in Clarina to mark the occasion.
The residents have been warmly welcomed by the community and have made a great effort to integrate.
Over 20 of the residents are working, the children attend the local schools and play for the local sports clubs. Four of the children play hurling for Ballybrown.
This is quite possibly the first instance of Ukrainian children hurling in the county.
Also, over 20 of the children attend English language lessons on a voluntary basis for three days each week over the summer holidays.
