Just over half of patients at ED in UHL from Limerick

MORE than half of the people who have presented to the emergency department (ED) at University Hospital Limerick (UHL) so far this year, have been from Limerick.
The CEO of UL Hospitals Group, Colette Cowan, gave figures to the Regional Health Forum West meeting about where people presenting to the ED in UHL had come from.
The hospital is the only Model 4 in the Mid-West and caters to the people of Limerick, Clare and North Tipperary, while there are local injury units in St John’s, Ennis and Nenagh.
Ms Cowan said that up until May 9, 2024, 58% of patients presenting to the ED, representing 17,743 people, were from Limerick, while 25% (7,657) were from Clare.
11% of the figures came from Tipperary, while 6% came from other counties.
In total, from the start of the year up until May 9, 2024, 30,642 patients presented to the ED. Over the course of six months, UHL monitored ED patient origins.
